The iconic Fairmont Resort in the Blue Mountains is to be upgraded following its acquisition by Sydney hotel investor Dr. Jerry Schwartz. Accor has announced that it will manage the World Heritage, 210-room hotel under its prestigious MGallery brand. In the hope of reviving the resort, the new ownership will supervise a A$20 million makeover. An Accor spokesperson said that the refurbishment project will be a “massive reputation revival” following the hotel’s decline under the previous owners. Geoff York, the General Manager of the MGallery Fairmont Resort, said the project is focused on making the resort family-friendly yet luxurious. He said that along with a philosophy of pleasure, “our aim is to upgrade facilities and services to meet the demands of today’s travellers.” He listed the launch of a kids club, outdoor pools and spas, improved dining options, and a new deck as some of the work that is planned for the hotel this year. Work on the hotel has already started and will continue throughout the year without inconveniencing any guests. Mr. York predicts that the new Fairmont will boost tourism to the Blue Mountains.
