Direct flights from Sydney to Rarotonga in the Cook Islands will be available to Australians from July 2011. Air New Zealand will travel direct from Sydney on a weekly basis to the centre of the Polynesian triangle. The new route will expose an increased number of holidaymakers to the 15 islands strewn over two million square kilometres of the Pacific Ocean as well as the unique Cook Islands Maori culture. According to Carmel Beattie, CEO of Cook Islands Tourism Corporation, the benefits of this recent development are expected to have a major impact on Rarotonga’s economy and tourism growth opportunities.
