Aurora Expeditions is offering an opportunity to assist in the collection of an incredibly rare five-kilogram meteorite in Antarctica’s Seymour Island early next month. Aurora Expeditions is embarking on a Weddell Sea voyage with expert palaeontologist Dr Paul Willis, who discovered the meteorite on an Aurora Expeditions voyage in 2008. Seymour Island is the best place in the world to observe the K/T Boundary, the geological ‘line in the ground’ where dinosaurs died around 65 million years ago and parts of the island are carpeted with fossils from ancient seas. The meteorite is potentially of huge scientific interest and Dr Willis believes it should be collected and preserved for posterity. Aurora Expedition passengers will enjoy daily shore excursions and explorations on inflatable Zodiac boats and a team of expert naturalists and staff will guide them through the dramatic landscape and abundant wildlife.
