| Aurora Expeditions have launched their 2012 brochure, which introduces two new voyages: Arctic Ocean Discoverer and Treasures of the Russian Far East. The Arctic Ocean Discoverer departs from Anadyr, in Russia, and will visit the World Heritage-listed Whalebone Alley and the Chuckchi villages as well as the rugged Chukotka coast. If the weather conditions allow it, passengers will also explore Wrangel Island Nature Reserve, which is home to a scientific research station, Inuit settlement and the highest density of polar bear dens in the world. Treasures of the Russian Far East will explore the Koryakskiy Coast, where passengers will discover abandoned fish factories, brown bears and grey whales. For hikers, Kamchatka will showcase summer flowers and ancient volcanoes while the Commander Islands’ offer spectacular sea cliffs, and a multitude of wildlife such as albatross, Steller sea lions and fur seals. Aurora Expeditions will also return to Scotland, with its Wild Scotland and the Faroe Islands voyage, where passengers will see cliffs, secret waterways, mountains and moors on board the Polar Pioneer. The Polar Pioneer and her sister ship, Akademik Shokalskiy, both accommodate up to 54 passengers, with an “aim to awaken passengers’ environmental awareness” Lisa Bolton, CEO Aurora Expeditions, said on Tuesday in a statement. |
