Boeing 787 set for take off

Date: January 17, 2011

The world’s most fuel-efficient passenger jet aircraft is set to take off for the first time by August this year. The state-of-the-art, mid-sized Boeing 787 Dreamliner carries up to 330 passengers and is 20 per cent more fuel efficient than the Boeing 767 due to revolutionary new carbon composite technology. The US$200 million plane has an interior atmosphere similar to the ground, unlike the desert-dry atmosphere of its predecessor, and is more durable. 847 of the planes have been ordered from Boeing with All Nippon Airways (ANA) receiving the first and largest number of planes. The Dreamliner has been delayed six times since the original 2008 deadline. The long delays have reportedly cost Boeing US$10 billion.
