Carnival Cruise Lines will base one of their cruise ships in Australia for the first time next year. The 88,500 tonne Carnival Spirit will be the largest ship ever to call Australia home. It arrives in Sydney in October 2012 to begin operating regular eight to 12 day voyages to the Pacific Islands. At 53 metres above the waterline, the ship is unable to pass under the Harbour Bridge and will be based at Circular Quay’s Overseas Passenger Terminal. The expansion into Australian waters marks a growing confidence in the region’s cruise industry.
