To aid recovery from recent political turmoil, military rulers in Egypt have reopened the most popular tourist attractions, namely the pyramids and the antiquities museum, that were closed during the three week period of unrest. With governments around the world issuing warnings to the general public to avoid travelling to the region, the country’s most lucrative sector was greatly affected. Following the departure of President Hosni Mubarak, military rulers have returned people to work and allowed visitors to access the pyramids in an attempt to recover its position as a top destination for travellers. Last week at AIME, the Egyptian Tourism Authority (ETA) assured agents and travellers that conflict had ceased and that the country was quickly returning to normal.
