The historic, five-star Eichardt’s Private Hotel, Queenstown was sold to a privately held Australian investment group in late December. The hotel, and four nearby Eichardt’s lakefront cottage suites, were sold to Melbourne based Imperium Capital Group (ICG) for an undisclosed sum. It had been reported that and earlier deal was in place with American billionaire Julian Robertson set to buy the hotel for less than NZ$1 million. ICG managing director Andrew Cox said in a press release that the new owners would continue to build the Eichardt brand and that the hotel would remain the same, with the company dedicated to the staff and the community.
