FACIAL HAIR FASHION

Facial Hair Fashion - Luxury Travel Magazine

Date: 28th October 2011 – 1st April 2012
Location: National Portrait Gallery, King Edward Terrace, Parkes, ACT

The National Portrait Gallery is displaying a collection of numerous facial hair fashions. This gallery will depict changes in moustaches, beards and sideburns from the 1780s to the 1980s. Ranging from the clean-shaven men in the eighteenth century to the ‘handlebar’ moustaches from the 70’s.
Called ‘Jo’s mos show (with beards)’ it will display portraits of individuals with different styles and looks. Through tracing the changing fashion of beards, shifting ideas in history are explored. The exhibition provides information on the changing attitudes of politics, society, masculinity and identity. See the website for more details; http://www.portrait.gov.au/
