| The Hilton Surfers Paradise had its official opening on 16 November, following a soft opening in September. The A$700 million property is the first luxury hotel to be built in the area since 2000. The hotel is positioned between Orchid Avenue and Surfers Paradise Boulevard, next door to Cavill Mall and a short walk from the beach. Construction began on the hotel in 2008 with a projected completion date of late 2009. However, work stalled in late 2008 as developer Jim Raptis struck financial difficulties and was forced to abandon the project. Brookfield Multiplex restarted construction in June 2009, completing the 32-storey Boulevard Tower in early 2011 and the 57-storey Orchid Tower in September. There are 169 guest rooms with floor to ceiling windows and 250 one-, two- and three-bedroom apartments spread across the two distinctive curved towers. The hotel rooms, located on levels three to 15 of the Orchid Tower, all feature high speed internet, iPod docking stations, bespoke pillow service and bathroom amenities by Peter Thomas Roth. The self-contained apartments feature full kitchens, laundry facilities and separate living and dining areas, as well as access to all of the hotel’s facilities like room service, concierge, mini bar and daily housekeeping. Guests can relax on The Deck, a 1,500 square metre space with four swimming pools, a spa, private day beds, picnic areas, outdoor terrace and barbecue pavilions serviced by a team of Poolside Valets. The Deck poolside menu has been designed by celebrity chef Luke Mangan, who is also at the helm of the hotel’s signature restaurant, Salt Grill. Other dining options include The Food Store, where guests can purchase a range of fresh local produce and deli products, and the vintage-styled Fix cocktail bar. The hotel’s eforea: spa is the first purpose built spa of its kind in a Hilton property in Australia. The flagship spa brand of Hilton Worldwide, efora at Hilton Surfers Paradise has seven private treatment rooms, two double treatment rooms for couples, a Vichy shower and uses two leading Australian spa brands, LI’TYA and VitaMan. The Hilton Surfers Paradise has a range of luxe extras on offer for guests including a beach valet service, the first of its kind in Australia. Valets will carry your gear down to the beach, secure you a prime spot on the sand and bring supplies of drinks, snacks, towels, beach toys and sunscreen throughout the day. Guests can also take advantage of the Request Upon Arrival service and ensure their room or apartment is fully stocked with their favourite food and drink before they arrive. Rates start at A$259 for a one-bedroom residence and A$279 for a hotel room. | |||||||
