TWEED HEADS NEW LUXURY APARTMENTS OFFER WHITE HOT STYLE ON CABARITA BEACH.

There is something comfortingly unchanging about this little slice of northern NSW beachfront. At Cabarita Beach you get fishing tackle and bikes in the same tiny shop, café owners all know each other, there are no souvenir emporiums and nothing is yet too gentrified. This is family holidays as they used to be. With one welcome exception – The Beach Resort, a plush four and a half star property on the ocean front. Which is a perfect combination really; a stylish place to stay on a beach that is still quiet and unspoiled.

The apartments are all privately owned and then rented out, but design and décor have to be a certain standard – and that standard is high. As we open the door on our first floor apartment we are equally stunned by the panoramic ocean view and by the bright, sleek furnishings. Stylish white leather couches, flat-screen TVs and a state of the art kitchen, with all utensils and crockery supplied, make this a very up-market apartment indeed. Better still our glass-fenced balcony opens onto a green space from which we can walk straight down to the surf beach.

There are 57 luxury apartments, many of which have stunning sea views. Most spectacular of all is the two-bedroom Penthouse, which is still for sale and if you have a cool $5 million plus to spare I recommend it because due to planning restrictions there are unlikely to be many more luxury apartments available this close to the beach. The apartment has its own roof top pool, and views all the way down the coast to Byron Bay in one direction and Surfers Paradise in the other. The beach resort also has a gymnasium and in-room massages are available. Best of all is the tiered pool and hot tub in the centre of the complex where children can play with the pool toys provided and adults can sun themselves or have a cocktail in the swim-up bar.

If you don’t fancy cooking in your apartment on your designer European appliances The Beach Resort has the trendy beachfront Beach Bar & Grill that you can wander down to. Just across the road on the shopping strip C-Vue offers up-market dining, and the Blue Rose Café is great for breakfast. We love the pristine sand and the landscaped gardens, but if you want a little more bling on your beach the Casaurina Salt development with its restaurants, shops and resorts is only a short bike ride away along the board walk. One morning we get up early, ram bike helmets on our heads, and cycle along the coast. There is beautiful a new wooden board walk and a cycle track that runs alongside the beach. All around are signs of change; flash new beach houses are being built and more apartment blocks are on the way. At Casaurina we stop in at Santai Resort for coffee and cake before riding back to our quiet beachside haven.
