US President Barack Obama’s administration booked out almost the entire property to make way for the president during his whirlwind Australian visit. Mantra Pandanas was chosen because it could fit the strict security brief. General Manager David Brill said: “Airtight security was ensured with three levels of Mantra Pandanas locked down and only accessible to Whitehouse security cleared staff.” He further commented: “Level 18 was converted into the nerve centre for the entire Australian visit, facilitated with six semitrailers worth of equipment.” Mantra Pandanas is located in Darwin’s CBD about 20 minutes away from the airport, and offers 336 rooms, modern décor and luxury amenities. The property also features two conference venues.
