| In a city as busy as Bangkok it is always good to find a hotel that takes relaxation seriously. The sleek, teak Conrad Bangkok has set aside the entire 7th floor and adjoining rooftop garden to the pursuit of leisure. There is an outdoor pool, two floodlit tennis courts, a jogging track and a fully equipped gym and aerobics room. More important for those of us for whom massage is an essential the spectacular Seasons Spa has twelve luxurious treatment rooms as stylishly designed as the rest of the hotel. “Welcome to your journey to a state of harmony”, the therapist tells me as she leads me from the reception to the treatment area down corridors bathed in a golden glow. “Here nothing matters but you”, she adds gently – a phrase that I’d already read in the brochure. But sitting in the grand double treatment room with its wood-lined walls, private shower, dressing room and relaxation nook piled high with Thai silk cushions, it makes more sense. In the centre is a perfectly round tub, its scented water strewn with flower petals. The spa’s state of the art sound system allows you to choose your own favourite mood music, lest whale song drives you mad or new age flutes jangle the nerves. I could have chosen Mozart, but instead I went for music that sounded traditionally Thai to get myself in the mood of the place. I opted for a Scent of Thai Body Scrub as part of my ultra-indulgent three-hour signature Tranquility treatment because the spa menu said it would ‘uplift my soul’. It is made with local tamarind and apricot kernels, which smelled wonderful and left my skin so smooth I nearly slid off the table. At the end of the three hours I was definitely uplifted – and still remarkably tranquil when faced with flight delays the next morning; the treatment lives up to its name. | |||||
