Financial worries have caused problems in the development of a luxury hotel on Rottnest Island. In an estimates hearing held last month Tourism Minister of Western Australia Dr Kim Hames said banks are reluctant to invest in hotels, causing the project to be “in limbo” and “problematic in the current financial situation”. Dr Hames has now provided an extension of three months to allow the developer, Pinctada Hotels and Resorts, the state government and the Rottnest Island authority to finalise plans and raise the necessary funds in order to “bring the project to fruition”. The luxury hotel is planned to feature 120 rooms, restaurant, bar, gym and spa.
