Titanic Memorial Cruise in April 2012 to commemorate centenary of sinking

Date: 15 July 2010
Its still 18 months away, but bookings for the Titanic Memorial Cruise are filling up fast. UK travel agency Mile Morgan Travel has chartered The Balmoral and will retrace the original path of the infamous RMS Titanic. The ship will depart Southampton in England on Sunday, April 8, 2012. It will pass over the resting place of The Titanic on April 15, 2012, and at 2.20am passengers will pay tribute to the 1,578 people who died that night, a century earlier, when the ship collided with an iceberg. The ship will arrive in New York on April 20, 2012. Throughout the cruise there will be lectures about life on board the Titanic, including some by family members of people who survived the sinking. Passengers will be asked to book set dinner sitting times and to pack a tuxedo for formal and gala events (there is a rental shop on board). There will be the opportunity to sit for high tea each afternoon, before heading to the card room to play bridge. Prices for the remaining cabin types aboard the Titanic Memorial Cruise start at 3,350 pounds ($A5,500).
