V Australia announces flights to Abu Dhabi

V Australia is cancelling their Phuket and Johannesburg flights and will turn to direct flights to Abu Dhabi from February 2011, becoming the only Australian airline to fly to the United Arab Emirates. They will commence a three-times per week service from Sydney to Abu Dhabi in February 2011 and will introduce a Brisbane-Abu Dhabi flight with similar frequencies by February 2012. With the codeshare in place with Etihad Airways, the two carriers will offer 27 weekly flights between Abu Dhabi and Australia (twice daily flights between Abu Dhabi and Sydney, daily Melbourne-Abu Dhabi and six flights per week from Abu Dhabi to Brisbane). The codeshare means Virgin Blue customers will be able to access Etihad's network of 65 destinations worldwide and will integrate the Etihad Guest and Velocity frequent flyer programs.
