Hollywood stars' home-away-from-home restored to boutique hotel
By Olivia Morris
The love nest of legendary Hollywood movie stars Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton has recently been restored into a boutique hotel called Casa Kimberly in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico.
The property, which opened in December 2015, tells the luxurious love story of Taylor and Burton. Nine suites, a pool and bar are available for guests in an elegant atmosphere drawn from traditional colonial Mexican design and accented with touches of Hollywood glamour.
Traditional aspects of the couple’s home have been preserved including the bridge Puente Del Amor (Bridge of Love), connecting the two villas and the traditional pink marble, heart-shaped bathtub in the Elizabeth Taylor Suite.
The suite also offers a large terrace, Jacuzzi and private pool, as does the Richard Burton Suite. The additional seven suites are individually designed and decorated with painted tile ceilings, murals, claw foot bathtubs and patio fountains.
Casa Kimberly’s fine dining restaurant, The Iguana, features a blend of modern and traditional Mexican cuisine. The bar gives guests the opportunity to taste a selection of tequilas with a resident tequila expert.
Rates start from US$435 (about A$609) per night.
