Dubai unveils plans for the world’s first underwater resort, The Floating Venice

Arrive by seaplane, check-in at the underwater lobby and take an imported Venetian gondola to your cabin before heading to a floating beach for a quick swim.

The World islands in Dubai will soon be home to a floating replica of Venice exclusively accessible by boat, seaplane or helicopter. The luxury resort will be technically classified as a boat, with a lobby, spa, three restaurants and 180 guest cabins located under the water, offering 360-degree views of the surrounding marine life. In order to ensure a flourishing marine eco-system, over 400,000 square feet of coral will be grown in an on-site coral nursery and planted around the resort. Guests can further explore the surrounding seas in one of the 12 floating beaches or 24 pools, some of which will have transparent bases to allow views directly into the ocean below.

Floating above the water will be a further nine restaurants, 234 rooms and a collection of traditional artisanal shops, with imported Venetian gondolas transporting guests through a winding network of canals. The resort will also host Venetian cultural and arts events such as Carnivale di Venezia, Binnale di Venezia and Festa del Rendentore.

Construction of The Floating Venice will begin in the first quarter of 2018, with completion by 2020 and will have capacity of 3,000 people at a time. Rates are yet to be released.
