Renovated Queen Kapi’olani Channels Hawaii’s Golden Age

Queen Kapi'olani

The reimagined hotel will open its doors on October 23, 2018 with a refreshed and playful design that nods to the hotel’s mid-century heritage

Queen Kapi‘olani Hotel in Waikiki will relaunch next month following a $35 million renovation that captures the hotel’s 1960s roots while bringing it firmly into modern-day luxury territory.

Built in the mid-1960s during Waikiki’s Golden Age as one of Honolulu’s grand full-service hotels, the Queen Kapi‘olani’s reimagining embraces its heritage with a retro-chic aesthetic, while its 315 guest rooms spread across 19 stories offer all the modern luxury trimmings.

The new rooms are cocoons of coastal comfort decorated with furniture that playfully nods to the hotel’s history, and offer unparalleled views of the ocean and Diamond Head through the oversized windows and from the rooms’ individual lanais.

Guests arriving at the new Queen Kapi’olani will find themselves in a breezy open-air lobby fronting Kapi‘olani Park, designed as a relaxing, social space and an extension of the surrounding upscale neighbourhoods of Waikiki’s Gold Coast, Kaimuki and Kahala. Not to mention, caffeine addicts and  wine connoisseurs alike will be kept happy with the addition of Knots Coffee Roasters, which serves up coffee by day and wine and small-batch local beers by night.

A few storeys up on the third floor, an 8,000-square-foot lanai (outdoor deck) and pool await, ready to transport weary travellers into holiday mode. The hotel’s “outdoor living room” also features a new restaurant – DECK, a bar and a lounge, all with the panorama of Diamond Head, the surf break at Waikiki Beach and the lush green lands of Kapi‘olani Park on display.

History buffs will want to visit the art gallery on the second floor, which takes visitors on a visual journey of Hawai‘i history with classic art, period pieces and modern installations, while the hotel’s halls are adorned with vintage photos, prints, posters, music programs and advertisements that tell tales of mid-century Hawai’i.

To celebrate the grand relaunch of the Queen Kapiolani Hotel, guests can book introductory rates for its newly renovated rooms and suites from now through December 20, 2018 starting from $150 per night.

The hotel has also announced an all-new lineup of lifestyle programming by local taste makers, offering fitness and wellness classes, crafting workshops, food and beverage experiences, as well happy hours and live music, and more. These events, activities, and classes are now available to book on the hotel’s website, with discounts for hotel guests.

The new Queen Kapi’olani will open on October 23, 2018.
