Baillie Lodges has acquired a majority stake in Chile’s luxury Tierra Hotels

Ultra-luxury operator of boutique lodges, Baillie Lodges, has announced its acquisition of Chile’s highly regarded Tierra Hotels (Tierra).

Tierra consists of three luxury lodges in South America, including Tierra Patagonia, located alongside craggy mountains and the glacial Lake Sarmiento in Torres del Paine National Park; Tierra Atacama, high in the northern desert of Chile; and Tierra Chiloé overlooking the dramatic coastline on Chiloé Island.

Baillie Lodges are members of Luxury Lodges of Australia and its existing portfolio of properties includes properties in Australia (Longitude 131° at Uluru-Kata Tjuta, Capella Lodge on Lord Howe Island, Silky Oaks Lodge at the Daintree Rainforest, The Louise in the Barossa Valley and Southern Ocean Lodge on Kangaroo Island, currently in rebuild); New Zealand (Huka Lodge) and Canada (Clayoquot Wilderness Lodge on Canada’s Vancouver Island). This new acquisition will now mean the brand has 10 global lodges in its portfolio in some of the world’s most sought-after locations

The Baillie Lodges team and Tierra Hotels founder Miguel Purcell have been long-time collaborators. The Purcell family, which has developed and successfully operated Tierra Hotels since 2008, will retain an ownership stake in the portfolio, and the three properties will retain Tierra Hotels branding.

The focus for both Baillie Lodges, founded in 2003, and Tierra, founded in 2008, has been to provide access to beautiful natural attractions in extraordinary locations – providing guests with cultural and authentic experiences at lodges with prized architectural merit that cater to a small number of guests. All properties in the portfolio share a commitment to the sustainability of the natural environment and their surrounding communities.

“We are delighted to work with the Baillie Lodges team,” said Mr. Purcell. “We both take a personal approach to hospitality, customising unique and enriching experiences for guests who are looking to explore the world in a meaningful, sustainable way.”

Baillie Lodges says it will meaningfully invest in the Tierra properties as well as expand the Tierra hotel platform in the coming years through acquisitions and new greenfield developments.
