True to the brand’s signature colourful and playful personality is the new The Standard, Bangkok Mahanakhon.

Channeling Bangkok’s spirit of innovation, The Standard, Bangkok Mahanakhon is located in one of the city’s most iconic buildings – the King Power Mahanakhon. This gigantic 77-storey twisting glass skyscraper is by German architect Ole Scheeren, principal of Büro Ole Scheeren Group.

Its prime location is conveniently located near the Old Town, where travellers can explore a range of Bangkok’s cultural attractions.

On the unordinary but expected side is the terrace pool, The Standard Gym and meeting rooms. Then there is The Parlor, the hub of the hotel for check-in and out, cocktails, work or lounging, the eclectic and unexpected Tease Tea Room, American steakhouse classics at The Standard Grill, and a really fabulous Chinese restaurant. However, the most impressive are the two, sky-high dining experiences from Ojo, a Mexican-inspired restaurant by multi-award-winning chef Francisco “Paco” Ruano; and Sky Beach, the highest alfresco rooftop bar in Bangkok.

Design notes

The Standard, Bangkok Mahanakhon is a collaboration between Spanish artist and designer Jamie Hayon and The Standard’s in-house design team. The design aims to defy convention, up the aesthetic stakes. The Standard’s unconventional and playful sensibility continues the brand’s eccentricities through its stylish rooms and suites.

Understated rooms are balanced by bold touches of glamour, such as the softly-lit bar area and retro-style furniture.

Created in 1999, The Standard International hotel group was founded by hotelier André Balazs (Chiltern Firehouse, Chateau Marmont and The Mercer).

Known for their pioneering design, taste-making clientele, and unrelenting un-standard-ness, the brand was originally launched in Hollywood, with marquee iterations now across the globe including in New York, Miami, London, the Maldives, Hua Hin and Ibiza. Standard hotels in Lisbon, Milan, Melbourne, Singapore, Dublin and Brussels are under development.
