Those looking to explore the rich cultural heritage and stunning landscapes of Kakadu National Park can now book a stay in one of five luxurious new Yellow Water Villas at Cooinda Lodge.
In the heart of the Top End’s Kakadu National Park, Cooinda Lodge has introduced the Yellow Water Villas, five luxurious retreats that sit adjacent to Ngurrungurrudjba, the Yellow Water Billabong.
Villa guests can expect a hand-made king-size bed, ensuite bathroom, dining area, and lounge area with daybeds. Alfresco living can be experienced with a BBQ and a private bathtub.
Outside of their villa, guests can access the facilities of Cooinda Lodge, including two restaurants and a bar, two resort-style swimming pools, and a children’s playground. Mimi’s Restaurant provides an Indigenous-themed dining experience with dishes incorporating barramundi, crocodile, buffalo, and local bush foods.
Activities might include a Yellow Water Cruise to spot the region’s beautiful geological features, unique plant species, and diverse wildlife — including the largest population of crocodiles in Australia and a third of the nation’s bird species.
The new villas demonstrate a strong commitment to preserving the traditional lands on which they have been built, in-line with Kakadu Tourism’s ‘Planet, People, Profit’ ethos.
The Indigenous-owned organisation ensured that every item used in the construction, as well as the ongoing operation of the villas, has been sensitively sourced. The structures were built on stilts to minimise the impact on the land, and no trees were felled to accommodate the project.
Each retreat is named for a native animal found in the Kakadu region and is themed throughout with stories of the local community. Decorations were sourced from local Cooinda artists and the Marrawuddi Art Gallery in Jabiru.
Villa rates are priced from $950 per night, including breakfast for two.
An introductory offer is available for $750 per villa per night (minimum three-night stay) inclusive of breakfast for two at Mimi’s Restaurant. Book by 31 May 2023 for selected stays until the end of the year.
