With a luxurious design and a prime location, the latest hotel from the boutique EDITION group has opened in the heart of the Eternal City.

Hotelier Ian Schrager and Statuto Group have opened The Rome EDITION, the first hotel in Italy from the brand.

Located just steps from the elegant Via Veneto — famed for featuring in the Fellini classic, La Dolce Vita — the 91-key property offers a considered focus on food and beverage with three bars, a rooftop lounge, bar and pool, a ‘show-kitchen’ restaurant, and a courtyard garden.

Dining and amenities

Paola Colucci is the hotel’s chef-partner, known for founding hit local restaurant, Pianostrada. Colucci’s Anima restaurant at the Rome EDITION is open-fronted and screened with amber glass, encouraging interaction with diners. Menus feature contemporary takes on traditional Italian dishes, with wines focusing predominantly on Italian varietals.

The hotel’s courtyard garden is teeming with more than 400 plants and Jasmine climbs over the façade. Free-standing furniture and wooden banquettes are designed to give the feel of a traditional Roman garden. Guests can enjoy all-day light dishes and cocktails on the relaxed terrace, or dine alfresco at Anima.

From the hotel rooftop, Roman landmarks such as the Pantheon, Acqua Paola Fountain, and the Basilica of Sant’Andrea della Valle can be spotted amongst sweeping city views. A travertine plunge pool is lined with teak daybeds, while drinks and light bites can be ordered at the bar counter.

Design notes

The hotel is set within a building from the 1940s, constructed in a Rationalist style by Cesare Pascoletti and acclaimed architect, Marcello Piacentini. Original features include a central staircase made of rare Cipollino marble sourced from the Apuan Alps; the central courtyards; and statues.

In the lobby, guests are greeted with seven-metre-high ceilings and travertine flooring and walls, creating a sense of grandeur. Bespoke white sofas are paired with coffee tables inspired by designer, Manuel Coltri, while a custom-made pool table lends to a relaxed, leisurely atmosphere.

The hotel’s 91 accommodations include 17 suites, with design elements consistent with the EDITION’s other global properties — muted tones, sleek accents such as walnut, and custom-designed furnishings. Local touches include Peperino stone, Italian artworks, and Carrara marble basins in the bathrooms.
