The design-driven W Hotels brand has opened a new property in Macau, conceptualised by Zaha Hadid Architecture

Macau’s Cotai Strip has a shiny new addition with the opening of W Macau — Studio City, a strikingly designed 557-key hotel that is home to Greater China’s first W Sound Suite Recording Studio.

W Hotels Vice President and Global Brand Leader, George Fleck, said the hotel will offer a contemporary form of luxury that has otherwise been missing from the city. “The opening of W Macau — Studio City ushers in a new, modern style of highly experiential hospitality in a city famous for its traditional approach to opulence”, said Fleck.

“We are excited to bring the W brand’s unique and unpretentious vibe to Macau and appeal to the next generation of luxury travellers through our contextual approach to design and commitment to the guest experience. It’s a new chapter for Macau and for W”, he added.

Design notes

The property has been designed by acclaimed Zaha Hadid Architects to integrate elements of Chinese and Portuguese cultures while staying true to W Hotels’ playful, irreverent aesthetic.

Classic cinema and Macau’s maritime heritage are themes that can be seen in the design, with a distinct marine theme pervading the reception area — white waves cross the welcome desks, seashore motifs illustrate the walls, and mirrored ceilings reflect the scenes below.

Guest accommodations range from 37sqm to 258sqm, with 430 rooms and 127 suites offering views of Cotai or the city. In-room amenities include Bluetooth sound systems and a W Mix Bar. The pièce de résistance is the Extreme WOW (Presidential) Suite, showcasing 270-degree views through floor-to-ceiling windows with a circular bed, and a generous living space that includes a kitchenette crafted using Portuguese azulejo tiles.

Authentic Experiences

The W Sound Suite is a unique offering for Macau and Greater China, offering guests the opportunity to let their musical creativity flow in a recording studio with professional-grade sound equipment.

A range of dining concepts at the hotel have been centred around Macau’s fusion flavours. Guests can sample Chinese-Portuguese pastries and baked goods at Living Room, while a beverage menu themed around infusion and smoke can be sampled at the adjacent bar APD (A Perfect Dose).

At the all-day restaurant Hawker Hawker, live kitchens and a menu of international and local flavours can be sampled. Diva is the 40th-floor restaurant devoted to contemporary Cantonese fine dining, with Blind Tiger bar offering an apothecary-inspired bar counter filled with rare spirits.

W Hotels’ signature WET space is featured in Studio City, with a Jacuzzi, cool-down pool, communal steam and sauna room and swing beds to unwind on. The AWAY Spa offers a range of signature treatments, and FIT is where guests can get active with a selection of weights and cardio equipment.

W Macau — Studio City joins the hotel brand’s portfolio of more than 60 global properties.
