Six Senses’s Japanese debut offers guests a luxury wellness experience in the heart of Kyoto’s Higashiyama District

Six Senses Kyoto mark’s the brand’s entry into Japan. Its location in the historical capital of the ancient country offers access to Buddhist temples, Shinto shrines, palaces and tea houses. The setting of Higashiyama district provides feudal style architecture in the hotel’s vicinity while occasionally featuring festivals and cultural events. Myoho-in Temple, Kyoto National Museum and Sanjusangen-do Buddhist Temple are all within walking distance of the hotel.

Eighty-one guest rooms and suites ranging from 42 to 238 square metres are arranged at Six Sense Kyoto to present views of the central courtyard, the gardens of the neighbouring Toyokuni Shrine or city views such as temples and tea shops. Six Senses Kyoto’s design centres on Japanese traditions with touches inspired by folklore, The Moon Rabbit and the classic Tale of Genji. BLINK Design Group merged these themes with an earth colour palette. The Three-Bedroom Penthouse Suite is secluded on the hotel’s top floor and is an ideal booking for multigenerational travellers or guests looking to host private events on the adjacent rooftop terrace.

Hand-on experiences include the Earth Lab, an Alchemy Bar and a locally grown herb garden. At Six Sense Spa, traditional healing and Japanese Zen culture are blended with smart science. The array of rejuvenating treatments and programs claim roots from Kyoto’s culture and community. Japanese bathing options include male and female bath houses, an indoor pool and Watsu. Yoga, meditation, aerial yoga, a state-of-the-art gym and Biohack Recovery Lounge are available to help support guests’ wellness goals. Off-site guided adventures through the hidden alleys, temples and markets of Kyoto can provide more insight to Japanese culture.

The menus at Eat With Six Senses are designed to combine local and seasonal food for guest well-being. Features include an all-day dining restaurant and counter-style sushi restaurant as well as a cocktail lounge and bar.

As part of IHG, Six Senses Kyoto offers guests access to the loyalty programme, IHG One Rewards. Reservations are now open for stays from 23 April.
