The best luxury hotels for a Hong Kong stopover

Kimpton Tsim Tsa Shui Hong Kong

Whether breaking up the journey to Europe or building in a few indulgent days of their own, Hong Kong delivers one of Asia’s most compelling luxury stopovers

As flight disruptions continue in the Middle East, travellers are looking to alternative stopover routes to break up the long haul to Europe. With its glamourous portfolio of hotels, high-end cuisine, world-class bars, shopping and spas, Hong Kong offers a mid-journey reset that’s rolling in luxury.

Four Seasons Hotel Hong Kong

If food is the way to your heart, this slick harbour-side address in Central is a match made. The three dining spots within this 45-storey, 399-room hotel collectively boast seven Michelin stars, including the world’s first Cantonese restaurant to be awarded three Michelin stars, Lung King Keen (dimsum here is a must – try the iconic baked whole abalone puff with diced chicken). Among all its vertiginous elegance is a resort-style infinity pool overlooking Victoria Harbour, plus a spa with similarly soothing views.

Rosewood Hong Kong

The brand’s flagship property in Kowloon was crowned the no.1 hotel in the world at The World’s 50 Best Hotels in 2025. That’s some feat given the competition. Within its 43 storeys are 413 expansive rooms starting at a spacious 53 square metres; artworks by Damien Hirst and Wang Keping; and 12 restaurants and bars including Indian street food spot Chaat and Michelin-starred The Legacy House, which specialises in Shunde cuisine from Guangdong. At Asaya Spa, the two-hour Spirit of Calligraphy treatment by French luxury beauty brand Guerlain uses delicate brushes to pay tribute to the ancient art of calligraphy.

Mandarin Oriental, Hong Kong

One of the city’s most storied stays, this classic Hong Kong hotel has been welcoming guests since 1963, and the service is still top-notch. Arriving late? Nightcaps don’t get better than the high-end Japanese-inspired cocktails at eccentric, award-winning izakaya The Aubrey on the 25th floor, which consistently ranks highly in Asia’s 50 Best Bars. The 447-room urban refuge will undergo a major US$100 million renovation, due to be completed in late 2026.

Kimpton Tsim Tsa Shui Hong Kong

The city’s newest hotel is located in the heart of Hong Kong’s buzzy Tsim Sha Tsui district, just moments from the historic Star Ferry and Hong Kong Art Museum. As the largest Kimpton property globally, it has an impressive 495 rooms with pinch-me harbour views and five dining spots, including modern Yunnan teahouse Jija by acclaimed chef Vicky Lau. There’s plenty on the doorstep if you can peel yourself away from the Palm Springs-esque 50th-floor rooftop pool and Swim Club.

The Peninsula Hong Kong

If these walls could talk. Hong Kong’s oldest hotel opened in 1928 and has lived through a number of significant historical events, including the Battle of Hong Kong in 1941. It underwent extensive renovations in 2012 and is home to one of the oldest designer fashion arcades in the city. Arrive via its Rolls Royce Phantom airport transfers or on the hotel helipad, and settle in for the legendary afternoon tea and live jazz among the colonnade and ornate ceilings of The Lobby.

Regent Hong Kong

The 80s Hong Kong icon that famously hosted US presidents and Hollywood stars rebranded from InterContinental back to Regent in 2023 after a serene redesign by Milan-based Hong Kong-born interior designer Chi Wing Lo. The Calacatta marble grand staircase has been preserved from the original hotel and rooms feature muted tones and natural textures to emphasise the staggering harbour views and sparkling skyline outside. Book a table at Nobu or two Michelin-star high-end Cantonese stalwart Lai Ching Heen, which has been in operation for four decades and serves up everything from steamed lobster dumplings to barbecued whole suckling pig.
