The best luxury resorts in Fiji for families of every age

Six Senses Fiji | Stand Up Paddleboards in the Lagoon

Beachfront villas, private islands and exceptional childcare make Fiji one of the world’s easiest luxury escapes for families – from toddlers to teens and every age between

And along came Max. A joy, to be sure. But when it came to family holidays, he threw a proverbial spanner. With three in tow, no longer would a standard two-bedroom suite suffice. And we knew exactly where to turn.

Fiji is the quintessential family-holiday destination. Famed for its private-island hideaways, palm-draped beaches and crystalline waters, the travel hotspot is equally defined by a warm, intuitive hospitality that embraces adults and children in equal measure.

At many of Fiji’s premium resorts, children of all ages – including the littlest cuties – are catered for via babysitting services, kids’ clubs and immersive activities designed to provide a positive impact on both participants and the local community.

When the kids are happy, so are their carers, who are left free to enjoy poolside cocktails, fine dining, indulgent spa treatments and adult conversation. And when the kids and adults reunite each day – the former exhausted and the latter well rested – connection is unhurried and pure, under the influence of the generous Fijian spirit.

There are 333 islands within the Fiji archipelago, ensuring visitors are spoilt for choice, as well as simply spoilt. Here are some of our favourite family-friendly stays that cater to all ages without compromising on luxury.

VOMO Island Fiji

When paradise beckons, VOMO Island provides a rare and welcome blend of high-end seclusion and family-friendly ease. All accommodation styles at VOMO are suitable for children, although size matters, of course. The beachfront family retreats and private residences are suitable for larger families, for which Max (and mum) are grateful.

For kid-free time, baby butlers are available for those under three, while The Kids Village caters to those aged three to 12, with three separate programs to ensure age-appropriate activities.

VOMO is also one of 20-plus operators that partnered with Tourism Fiji this year to help launch Loloma Hour, an initiative that invites travellers to spend at least one hour during their visit taking part in a sustainability activity. No special skills required. And no age restrictions either. As long as it’s safe, of course, kids of all ages can engage in this thoughtful hour of cultural and environmental stewardship.

Malolo Island Resort

Another founding partner of Loloma Hour, Malolo Island Resort is a sun-splashed haven where families can find their perfect balance of play, rest and island charm.

There are four family bures at Malolo, which can sleep up to seven people, and even the two-bedroom bures can fit a family of five with three single beds in the second room (thank you, Malolo!). Deluxe Oceanview (two to three kids), Oceanview (two) and Island bures (two) can also accommodate your littles.

Across two programs, Tia’s Treehouse Kids Club has children from four to 12 sorted, while Khail’s Club lounge is a welcome space for nine- to 17-year-olds to hang or chill or … whatever word is cool these days. Under-fours can attend suitable Treehouse activities if accompanied by a carer, while a private babysitting service can be arranged through the resort.

Six Senses Fiji

Still on pristine Malolo Island, Six Senses is another dreamy option, if the dream happens to be barefoot luxury for the whole family.

The resort’s three- to six-bedroom residences are a treat, each complete with a private pool, fully equipped kitchen, sun deck and a dedicated nanny service.

Grow with Six Senses is the resort’s nature-focused kids’ club, providing hands-on activities such as coconut crafts, grass-skirt making, cooking classes and a Climate Warrior program that champions both play and conservation.

Intercontinental Fiji Gold Resort and Spa

On the main island of Viti Levu, overlooking the sapphire sweep of Natadola Bay, the InterContinental Fiji Golf Resort & Spa is a family-ready base with all the hallmarks of a magical escape.

As well as boasting the largest standard rooms on the main island, the InterCon offers one-, two- and three-bedroom club suites, plus connecting rooms, to ensure families big and small can enjoy the tropical spoils.

Planet Trekkers Kids Club provides two programs, one for those aged four to seven and another for the eight- to 12-year-olds. The littler tots can attend in the company of a resort nanny.

Nanuku Resort Fiji

Nanuku Resort, a 200-hectare private coastal estate on the doorstep of three-plus kilometres of white-sand beach, pairs laid-back island living with thoughtful family comforts.

Its newly remodelled beachfront residences feature one to six bedrooms, each with a private pool, fully equipped kitchen and plenty of sun-dappled spaces for families to spread out and settle in.

Children of all ages are welcome, with complimentary nannies for those under six and buddies available to partner up with the six- to 12-year-olds. Meanwhile, the Lailai Children’s Club is a hub of wonder with fun and educational activities, from warrior drumming lessons to sandcastle building competitions. Game on!

Jean Michel Cousteau Resort

Sitting pretty in Savusavu, on the idyllic northern tip of Vanua Leva, Jean Michel Cousteau (JMC) Resort is world renowned for its eco-credentials, for its diving program and for its distinctively Fijian hospitality.

The resort’s two-bedroom bures can sleep five or six, assuming your littlest is happy on a rollaway. They end up sneaking in next to a parent most of the time anyway, right?

The kids’ club program has all ages covered: under-5s enjoy the personal attention of in-house nannies; children aged six to 12 connect in small groups, with a Fijian buddy at the helm (and a maximum 1-5 ratio); and teens are separately catered for via tailored programs and a dedicated activities manager. And nothing lame either (see previous note regarding cool words): think waterfall safaris, sailing, night snorkelling – JMC will inspire.

Shangri-La Yanuca Island

Coral Coast on one side, private beach on the other: Shangri-La Yanuca Island is a dreamy getaway where adults and children can indulge, whether together or apart.

There are 443 rooms, suites and bures at the Shangri-La. The Reef Wing is a dedicated adults-only space, but the rest of the property is your paradisaical family playground. In the Ocean Wing, connecting rooms help families spread out (although you are invited to sleep two adults and two children in one room), while in the Yanuca Lagoon Wing, the bures accommodate up to six (two adults, four kids).

Little Chief’s Club entertains young ones with daily crafts, games and beach adventures; the resort’s inflatable water park is a thrill for kids and kids at heart; and the marine education centre hosts activities such as fish-house building and mangrove and coral planting, offering curious minds an engaging way to connect with the reef.

Kokomo Private Island

While it might not be the inspiration for that catchy Beach Boys tune, the vibe at Kokomo Private Island is certainly on par. This resort pairs castaway seclusion with every conceivable family comfort to ensure absolute luxury across generations.

Villas and multi-bedroom residences come with private pools, full kitchens and sweeping ocean views, giving families the space to settle in and slow down.

For children up to three, Kokomo nannies are at your service, making kid-free time blissfully easy, while older children are kept busy through age-appropriate programs that blend culture, creativity and beachside adventure. Budding marine lovers can also take part in Kokomo’s coral restoration projects, a hands-on introduction to the island’s remarkable underwater world.

Paradise Cove

On spectacular Naukacuvu Island, Paradise Cove Resort is a picture-perfect escape for families seeking privacy, comfort and island charm.

Villas and beachfront residences offer generous space, fully equipped kitchens and room for little ones to roam. For larger families, the two-bedroom home (hello, private seven-metre pool) or two-bedroom beachfront villa can sleep six.

The kids’ club is a vibrant space for young explorers, packed with tailored activities, including crab hunting, snorkelling, coconut husking and guided explorations of the surrounding reef and lagoon. It is available to under-5s with an on-staff Mei Mei Mama (nanny), while the Paradise Teen Yurt is open to the big brothers and sisters, aged nine-plus.
