Six Senses Rome

The 96-room Six Senses Rome will be the brand’s first resort in Italy when it opens its doors early next year. The sustainable and wellness threads that run through Six Senses properties will be evident here too, with the resort aiming to provide an oasis of greenery and calm amid the vibrancy of Rome’s Via del Corso. A stay here will see you just steps away from the Pantheon and Trevi Fountain in the UNESCO World Heritage-listed site of Rome’s historic centre. The hotel is housed within the newly restored 15th-century Palazzo Salviati Cesi Mellini. Head here for all-day dining overlooking Rome’s historic neighbourhood; while the Six Senses Spa will provide a contemporary interpretation of traditional, ancient Roman baths. Katrina Holden

Bulgari Hotel Rome

The ultra-luxury maison Bulgari will open its much-anticipated Rome hotel in 2023, within a striking rationalist building, which was constructed between 1936 and 1938 by the architect Vittorio Ballio Morpurgo. Two of the city’s iconic landmarks—the Ara Pacis and the Mausoleum of Augustus—are right outside the hotel. A renovation project led by the Italian architectural firm Antonio Citterio Patricia Viel will incorporate Bulgari’s contemporary, elevated style with heritage features, such as ochre Travertine marble, delicate frescoes by Antonio Barrera, and a 70sqm mosaic by the Italian painter and sculptor, Ferruccio Ferrazzi. The mostly suite accommodations will be complemented by a restaurant headed by renowned chef Niko Romito, a bar with views of the city, a high-end spa, and a special reading room, fittingly dedicated to the history of jewellery.

Palazzo Roma

Palazzo Roma

Set to open in the Spring after a two-year renovation, Palazzo Roma will be Shedir Collection’s fourth high-end boutique hotel in the city centre. Versailles teak parquets, wooden panelling and marble flooring are some of the design details set to be unveiled by architect Giampiero Panepinto, with 39 accommodations offering a refined, elevated aesthetic. Guest amenities will include a restaurant, a private courtyard with games, and a music room.

W Rome

Celebrating its first anniversary this month, W Rome is a stylish and distinctive addition to the city, situated on Via Liguria next to the Spanish Steps. Meyer Davis conceptualised the design for the 162-room hotel, contrasting Rome’s classic architecture and rich cultural heritage with W’s quintessentially eclectic and playful style. Guest accommodations feature bold colours and graphic prints, floor-to-ceiling windows, and modern marble bathrooms. Many also come with private balconies and terraces. Dining at W Rome is inspired by the flavours of Sicily, courtesy of revered chef Ciccio Sultano. A lounge on the ground floor features live music, DJ sets, and cocktails, while the rooftop has a plunge pool and rooftop bar with views of the city.

Umiltà 36

The latest boutique hotel from Shedir Collection, Umiltà 36 opened in August in an enviable location, just steps from the Trevi Fountain in the heart of Rome. An 18-month renovation undertaken by CaberlonCaroppi studio carefully restored many of the building’s original features, including a marble staircase and beautiful high ceilings. A 1950s-inspired design aesthetic sees mid-century furnishings decorating the 47 guest accommodations. The hotel features a literary café in the lobby lounge, a rooftop bar and lounge with city views, and an El Porteño restaurant serving Argentinian specialities.

Anantara Palazzo Naiadi Rome Hotel

Anantara Palazzo Naiadi Rome

Opened in October 2021, Anantara’s Roman hotel sits within a beautiful crescent-shaped palazzo from the 19th century, which sits opposite the Piazza della Repubblica. Two hundred and thirty-eight rooms and suites feature a classic, sophisticated design with antique-style furnishings and warm tones. Some feature views of the Diocletian baths, once the largest bath complex in Rome. Other famed attractions close to the hotel include the Trevi Fountain, the Spanish Steps, and the Fori Imperiali. A recently launched signature experience has been designed for guests to authentically connect with their locale, with activities such as sampling pastries and award-winning vegan chocolate; and encountering the Moses sculpture by Michelangelo at San Pietro in Vincoli—all while being transported through Rome’s cobbled streets in a Vespa sidecar.
