MACq 01 is located in Hobart directly on the harbour with front row views of the vast MACq, Mount Wellington and the waterfront precinct. Located on Hunter Street and amongst the working docks of Hobart’s Old Wharf, the neighbourhood boats some of Tasmania’s favourite restaurants, cafes and markets, the Art School of the University of Tasmania, the Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery and the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra.

MACq 01 is located The Hunter Street Precinct. Across Sullivans Cove and only a few minutes’ walk is Salamanca and Salamanca markets. Salamanca has a number of restaurants, cafes, bars, art galleries and also Peacock Theatre. The State Theatre and Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery is also a short walk away.

MACq 01 Hotel offers a variety of 114 rooms and suites, each characterised by a generous floorplan and relaxed and informal style. All waterfront rooms have views of the River Derwent and Mount Wellington and Hunter Rooms look over the historic Hunter Street which is steeped in colonial history.

You need to know:

MACq 01 call themselves “Austalia’s first dedicated storytelling hotel”. They have a team of storytellers who tell the story of Tasmania’s characters, events and the tales of the location the hotel resides in. The storytellers take tours of the waterfront and the hotel, where each of the 114 rooms feature a different Tasmanian Character and Story on the door.

Story Bar is inspired by the nature of the Tasmanian Society and the character and events that inspire it. The bar offers a drink list including local draught beer, to wine, spirits and specialty cocktails.
Old Wharf Restaurant is based on the early industries located on the Hobart docks, with an open kitchen serving local seafood and produce, accompanied by local and international wines.
The Lounge celebrates Tasmania’s indigenous heritage, with extraordinary artefacts dating back centuries, an open inviting fireplace and a warm, comfortable social atmosphere.

Eco and community initiatives:

The hotel has partnered with indigenous group mina-nina, promoting aboriginal culture and tourism. They have also partnered with a range of local tourism businesses, cross-promoting and making guest reservations, including MONA Cruises, Pennicott Wilderness Journeys, Corporate Car Transfers and various local restaurants. The hotel is an official supporter of Dark Mofo, Hobart’s highly acclaimed winter festival of arts and culture; and encourage staff to join a volunteering team called Care For Our Community which regularly volunteers to care for and support those in need in our community.

The hotel offers a personal butler service reserved just for the Suites. The MACq 01 Butler is available to guests prior, during and after their stay.

Guests can participate in a daily gin masterclass under the guidance of their in-house cocktail master, creating their own gin with Tasmanian botanicals. Brewery tours, Chef’s Table experiences and cooking demonstrations are also available.
