Sofitel Sydney Darling Harbour
This Friday marked the opening of Sydney’s first new-build five star hotel in 15 years. A shimmering addition to the Darling Harbour skyline, the 590-room Sofitel Sydney heralds the first of Sydney’s new luxury hotel developments scheduled for opening over the next four years.
To celebrate the launch of the hotel’s Champagne Bar, Sofitel will be hosting a Champagne Degustation with connoisseur Clovis Taittinger of the family-owned Champagne House Taittinger. The Champagne degustation will be paired with a selection of treats created by Executive Chef Matt Coates. Places are limited and tickets are available from A$60 per person.
Wanda Vista Hotel
Circular Quay will welcome its first five-star hotel since 2014 when the 181-room Wanda Vista Hotel opens in 2021. The 28-storey hotel will be a part of the new One Circular Quay complex and will be designed by Sydney-based Crone Architects and the renowned Japanese firm Kengo Kuma & Associates.
Crown Sydney
Touted as Sydney’s first six-star luxury hotel, this new build at Barangaroo South will feature 350 hotel rooms and suites, luxury apartments, and pool and spa facilities alongside a range of specialty restaurants, bars and retail and gaming facilities.
Ritz-Carlton Sydney
The luxurious Ritz-Carlton brand is returning to Sydney with the launch of a 220-room hotel above The Star casino. Set to open at the end of 2020, the Ritz-Carlton Sydney will have 220 rooms and 150 private residences across its 60 storeys, within a building designed to look like a twisted silver spiral.
The Sandstones
At the end of 2017 Singaporean developer Pontiac Land will begin a A$300 million redevelopment of the heritage-listed Sandstones into more than 250 luxury hotel rooms and suites, a downstairs retail and dining space, and a rooftop salon.
Rumour has it…W Hotel Sydney
Come 2019 W Hotels will open their second property in Australia as a part of Darling Harbour’s new precinct The Ribbon. Set in the space once occupied by the IMAX theatre, the 402-room W Sydney will be housed in the top floors of the 20-storey development along with a revamped IMAX theatre, retail space and serviced apartments.
