Nobu Hotels debuts its first African property in Morocco’s Red City this month—a luxurious all-suite hotel with destination dining from namesake chef, Nobu Matsuhisa.

Nobu Hotels is set to open the five-star Nobu Hotel Marrakech in Morocco on 23 January. The distinctive circular property will offer a Nobu Restaurant and Bar, a rooftop pool terrace with panoramic views, and one of the largest spas in the Nobu portfolio, all located in the city’s Hivernage district, in the heart of the ‘Golden Triangle’.

Seventy-one spacious suites are split across three floors, all with views of either the Atlas Mountain range or Koutoubia Mosque, the largest in the city.

With gastronomy as a central focus of Nobu Hotels’ guest proposition, the hotel’s restaurant and bar will have a private entrance, DJ deck, and poolside terrace. Signature dishes that made Nobu an international culinary sensation, such as black miso cod and yellowtail sashimi with jalapeño, will be a fixture on the menu, in addition to new dishes created by namesake chef, Nobu Matsuhisa.

The hotel’s 2,000sqm Pearl Spa will serve as an oasis from the hustle and bustle of the city, with relaxation areas, a heated indoor swimming pool, hammams, Jacuzzis, steam baths, saunas, a gym, and a salon offering hair and beauty services.

Guests will find themselves close to the cultural centre of Marrakech, with nearby attractions including souks and the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Jemaa el-Fnaa square, in the medina quarter (old city).

Design notes

The Japanese concept of Kokoro—embodying a spiritual connection with the destination—has been used as a central premise in the design. Interiors pay tribute to the history of the building while adding modern Japanese flourishes. Local artwork and handmade fixtures are said to speak to the architectural heritage of Marrakech.
