Alila Hotels and Resorts has unveiled their newest property Alila Yangshuo, which will open next month. Nestled amongst the iconic karst mountains of Guilin in Southern China, the Alila Yangshuo offers panoramic views of the Li River from its 117 rooms, suites and villas.
Carved out of a structure that was once a working sugar mill, the resort design combines modern features with elements of the building’s industrial past. The swimming pool owes its distinctive aesthetic to its past life as a functioning sugarcane dock, while the hollow designs inset into the walls are also part of the original structure.
Contrasting with these original design elements are contemporary features such as the ultra modern spiral staircase leading to the underground Spa Alila, which is made from volcanic rocks unearthed during the resort’s construction.

As well as the standard amenities such as a library, gym, kids’ club, bar and restaurant, the resort also offers a number of bespoke Alila Experiences. Options include a visit to the ancient bazaar in the town of Fuli, a rock climbing exploration of the resort’s very own karst hill, a river biking journey along the Yulong riverside and a sugar spinning class in honour of the building’s past.
