Aman expands in Japan

The shores of Ago Bay (also known as the Bay of Pearls) in the Ise Shima National Park is home to the second Aman Hotels & Resorts property in Japan, opening 1 March.

Named Amanemu, the resort has been designed by Kerry Hill Architects, the same team behind the design of Aman Tokyo, which opened in 2014. The design cues are inspired by Japanese minka – vernacular houses with low-slung tiled roofs. All rooms in the resort feature their own onsen (natural hot spring).

Local activities include private tours through the Ise Grand Shrine, the most sacred Shinto shrine in the country; and dives with ama – female Japanese divers who developed the cultured pearl industry in the 19th century in this region.

Room rates start from JPY109,836 (about A$1,373) per night.
