Foodie showcase on the Great Barrier Reef

Lizard Island will be hosting a four-day epicurean event in May with renowned guest chefs. The inaugural Lizard Island Food and Wine Event will showcase local produce through a series of food and wine master classes and special dining experiences with acclaimed guest chefs and the resort’s sommelier.

Culinary options for guests during the event include Lizard Island’s executive chef Mark Jensen presenting a master class focused on tropical north Queensland; a master class specialising in Grass & Grain, presented by Australian corporate executive chef Markus Werner, who headed the kitchen for the Australian Open; and chef Rick Moonen will be presenting a class named From the Coral Sea, focusing on seafood. Las Vegas-based Moonen is a renowned chef in the US and a leading advocate in the culinary world for sustainable seafood practices. On the final night of the festival, all three chefs will present a degustation dinner for guests.

Lizard Island’s sommelier Jeremy Oliver will co-present two wine master classes alongside Bruce Nancarrow from The House of Krug [champagne] and Rick Kinzbrunner from Giaconda wines. Krug Champagne and Giaconda wines will be served for the duration of the event.

Spa treatments and excursions to nearby private beaches are among some of the other activities included, with fishing trips or cruises to the Great Barrier Reef also available at an additional cost.

Lizard Island fully reopened in October last year after completing a 16-month renovation and refurbishment, following damage caused by two cyclones. The food and wine event will run from 17 – 21 May 2016. Package prices start at A$10,856 per couple, including four nights’ accommodation, all master classes, dining, selected activities and excursions and air transfers. lizardisland.com.au/foodandwine
