THE CABIN

Business class seating configuration is 2 x 2 x 2 format with total capacity for 18 passengers.

CHECKING IN

Check-in is timely and staff friendly. Air India passengers are given access to the Qantas business class lounge. 7/10

ALCOHOL

I’m always one for a glass of bubbles prior to take-off. We’re served H Blin Brut Champagne. With meals, I drink the Montagny Premier Cru made from chardonnay. I didn’t drink spirits, but brands on the list include Bacardi Rum, Remy Martin Cognac, Gordon’s Gin, Johnnie Walker Black Label 12YO, Chivas Regal 12YO and Talisker 10YO.

MEALS

For the main I choose the Murgh Makhani – chargrilled chicken in tomato butter gravy served with pulao, spiced vegetables and dal, followed by German Forest gâteau. At each meal there’s a choice between Western or traditional Indian dishes. Servings are generous. 7/10

SPACE

The bed lies flat and is very comfortable. I manage a good snooze beneath the comfort of my white quilt and beige blanket. The seat width is 56cm and I’m impressed by the amount of leg room and stowage at my feet. If in a window seat, aisle access can be negotiated with relative ease.

AMENITIES KIT

No amenity kit provided – socks and eye-mask only. On take-off and prior to landing, guests are offered a choice of hot or cold refresher towels.

PYJAMAS OR NOT

No pyjamas provided.

ENTERTAINMENT

About 50 movie selections (choice between English and Hindu), 130 TV shows and 10 PC games (including 3D).

QUALITY OF HEADPHONES

A little large for my frame, but worked fine. 7/10.

BATHROOM

The toilets were clean and presentable at all times. 8/10

BAGGAGE

Business class baggage allowance is 35kg for adults and 10kg for infants. Fee for excess baggage is A$33/kg.

LOYALTY PROGRAM

Flying Returns. Air India is a member of the Star Alliance program.

GRIPES

On this particular flight, there were no printed menus. I enquired, but was told there were none. However, menus were available on my return flight, so just a small glitch that didn’t detract from the overall experience.
