Aro Hā

Glenorchy

There’s no need to do it hard, if you want to simplify, refocus, reconnect. You can do all that at the same time as appreciating what’s good in life – after all, isn’t that what it’s all about? On a hill above Lake Wakatipu at Glenorchy, built low to the ground in stone, timber and glass, Aro Hā has clean, straight lines and fabulous views. This new eco-friendly retreat is focused on clearing the mind and purifying the body. From the homegrown produce to yoga overlooking the lake to hiking over the hills behind, the environment is essential to the five or seven days of a Wellness Adventure, and though it can be a shock to the body, there’s consolation in doing it in such a beautiful part of the country.

Things are kept simple here, there are no frills, but it’s not a monastic existence: the rooms are stylishly comfortable, the food is colourful and tasty, and the company is supportive. The aim is to still the mind’s chatter, refocus on what’s important, leave behind what’s holding you back, and purify the body to re-energise and boost health. Serious stuff – but the atmosphere is cheerful and encouraging, and the camaraderie is strong.
