Nihiwatu Resort launches five-day wilderness yoga retreat

Nihiwatu Resort, a five-star eco resort set on Indonesia’s Sumba Island has announced the launch of its Wild & Free wilderness yoga retreat. The five-day yoga retreat will be led by professional yoga instructor Sjana Earp and Rod Cooper, the owner of The Movement Collective, a fitness company that combines acrobatics, gymnastics, and calisthenics to teach body movement techniques.

Offering personalised instruction and daily group classes, the retreat will combine hatha, vinyasa, and restorative practices and focus on breathing techniques and meditation. The yoga classes will be held in various places across the island including the resort’s yoga pavilion, under a waterfall, and on a private island.

Guests can also partake in a tropical jungle trek and learn about the island’s ancient tribal culture on these remote beaches. This guided tour will take guests through the Indonesia National Park to picnic at the blue lagoon at the base of the Blue Waterfall.

In addition to the Wild & Free retreat, Nihiwatu is also offering year-round Barefoot Luxury Retreats led by the resort’s Yoga and Wellness Director Mary Tilson. The retreat includes an array of yoga classes, from restorative and yin to aerial practices.

Guests can add a number of wellness experiences to their stay at Nihiwatu, including the Nihioka Spa Safari, which includes a trip to the west coast of Sumba Island for a day of speciality spa treatments and yoga sessions. Locally inspired Indonesian treatments include a Mimphi Indah facial using locally sourced products, and the Lulur, a detoxifying wrap that relieves aching joints and sore muscles.

The Wild & Free Retreat will run from 7th to 12th October 2017. Rates start from US$3,495 (about A$4,610) and include airport transfers, accommodation, blue waterfall picnic adventure, Nihi Oka Trek, organic chocolate making class, and snorkelling.
