Review: United Airlines Polaris Lounge

The Polaris Lounge at LAX airport offers a sanctuary for business passengers travelling with United Airlines or Star Alliance partner airlines.

After a very busy four days in Los Angeles, I arrived at LAX airport well before the required time after hearing about security checks and the possibility of delays. I was pleasantly surprised at how seamless the process was as I checked in for my United Airlines flight home to Australia, and through security, in under 30 minutes.

The directions to the 140-seat Polaris Lounge, located in Terminal 7, were easily spotted and I was there in no time. The lounge, occupying a space of approximately 1114 square metres, was vast and opened up to a welcoming bar area with plenty of stools for perching at the curved bar counter; or you could choose the comfortable lounge chairs. Beneath each seat in the lounge is a power and USB outlet for guest use.

As I ventured through the lounge, viewing the tarmac and runway from floor-to-ceiling windows, I passed an impressive wine wall and an expansive food station. You could dine from the buffet; or take a seat in the dining room, where wait staff present you with an à la carte menu to choose from

I opted for a prawn entrée with a main of chicken tikka, paired with a lovely glass of Malbec that I sipped while catching up on some reading. I hear that the Polaris signature burger, a regular at all Polaris lounges, is quite popular with passengers.

Some other lounge features of note are the 12 private working pods that each includes power outlets, USB ports and individual lighting; and the quiet private daybed suites where guests can go for a nap before their flight, reclining on Saks Fifth Avenue bedding. The luxurious shower suites include rainfall showerheads and Soho House & Co’s Cowshed Spa products, allowing you to freshen up before embarking on your trip.

The Polaris Lounge is open daily from 5:30am until 11:30pm.
