Suite life: Shangri-La’s Rasa Sentosa Resort & Spa

About the hotel

On Siloso Beach overlooking the South China Sea, this is the only beachfront resort in Singapore. Although only a 15-minute drive from the city centre, the greenery, rainforest, animal life and waterfront let you experience true island life while just a short taxi ride from the city.

Unique features

At first, it’s quite surreal to be surrounded by 360-degree view of nature. On the seventh floor of the resort’s east wing, the Deluxe Sea View Suite is an indulgent island experience with expansive views of multiple pools, gardens and water. The one-bedroom suite has an extended patio with outdoor spa. The bathrooms feature a standing shower, plush towels and a gigantic bathtub.

Dining

Because it’s slightly remote from the city, the resort offers multiple dining options. Dine On 3 features a group of restaurants under one roof – Casserole, Silver Shell Cafe, 8 Noodles and The Bubble Bar. Trapizza was my favourite with simple, wood-fired pizzas, pasta and salads. At the breakfast buffet, there is an adults-only dining level.

Highlights

There’s a number of holidaying options here: relaxing on your expansive private balcony, in your personal spa bath, visiting island attractions (Orchid Park, Universal Studio, Fort Siloso), or shuttling to the heart of the metropolis to shop or dine.

Could do better

Although its seclusion is one of the selling points, there are few attractions within walking distance to explore. There is also a gap in the restaurant experience. Devout foodies should plan a trip into the city to explore more fine dining options.

If you’d like an upgrade

The Sentosa Suite is the most-exclusive presidential suite and the largest room in the resort. Located on the top floor of the east wing, it offers a bird’s eye view of Sentosa Island and the South China Sea.

Insider tip

A major Sentosa Island attraction is the Skyline Luge, where you can zoom down 650 metres of jungle trail as fast or slowly as you like. Follow this with the Skyride chairlift for a panoramic view of the city skyline.
