ABOUT THE HOTEL

I can’t really think of a more ideal location for a hotel in Sydney; opposite Hyde Park and right in the middle of the best retail on offer. If like me you like to walk a city, there’s lots of shopping, dining, theatre and sightseeing you can level-walk to from this hotel. Classic contemporary in style, Sheraton on the Park has 557 guest rooms and all the great things that come with that scale like a world-class spa, a club level with great views, high-quality internet access and cocktails to kick off the evening. There’s a huge indoor pool, 24-hour gym, on-site hairdresser and a few good in-house dining options.

UNIQUE FEATURES

Sweeping views over the tree filled Hyde Park and a full-frontal view of the beautiful St Mary’s Cathedral are unique in a Sydney hotel and inspire a jog or stroll through the park which is a great way to start the day before returning to base for a swim in the huge indoor swimming pool with a glass ceiling that lets the sunlight pour in.

DINING

Restaurants you’d travel some distance to visit are on the doorstep of the Sheraton on the Park but the in house dining options are good too. The Conservatory Bar has views over the park and serves tapas. The bold and contemporary The Gallery Tea Lounge serves a traditional high tea, pastries and other light fare while Feast is an a la carte and buffet restaurant serving seafood and cuisines from all over the globe with a stone heath oven in the centre cooking up roasts and wood-fired pizzas and live cooking stations where you can watch the chef in action. Seating arrangements include communal dining tables, private booths and dining rooms, restaurant tables and an alfresco terrace overlooking the park. There are also cosy lounge areas for comfortable group gatherings.

SPA

Even the treatment rooms in the Spa at this hotel are luxurious and they too overlook Hyde Park but what is a little more extraordinary is that besides some special beauty and relaxation therapies, there’s a focus on emotional health. The sanctuary – like feel to the place on the top floor of the hotel certainly helps by encouraging a feeling of tranquillity.

HIGHLIGHTS

The Terrace Suites sprawl out at between 80 and 150 square metres to an expansive terrace that faces east to the park and across to the harbour. A beautiful spa bath in the master bathroom faces a wall-mounted flat screen TV for your bath time viewing pleasure. A separate living room includes a dining table that seats five and huge comfortable sofas face the spectacular views. There’s a powder room for guests and a walk-in wardrobe for you to spread out for the stay. Bvlgari products in the double vanity, marble bathroom, a Bose sound system, large flat-screen tvs in the living room and king bedroom all make it very tempting to just stay in and perhaps invite some Sydney friends around to order room service, which by the way, is delivered in the style of the best traditional luxury hotels, with all the trimmings. Block out curtains throughout make possible the big sleep in the next morning.

IF YOU’D LIKE TO UPGRADE

The Terrace Spa Suite on Level 21 is high up for even better views and is even more spacious than the standard Terrace suites.

INSIDER TIP

Stay in the hotel for breakfast. The breakfast buffet is fabulous. Also, all suite guests get access to the club level so don’t leave without making time for at least one visit. The views are great and the food and drinks are delicious.
