Hobart will have a new luxury hotel next year – MACq01 is the latest project from the Federal Group, owner of Saffire Freycinet.

Federal Group – the hotel group behind Saffire Freycinet and The Henry Jones Art Hotel – will open a new luxury hotel in Hobart in 2017. The 114-room MACq01 hotel will sit in Hobart’s historic waterfront precinct, displaying a distinctively Tasmanian aesthetic as it aims to tell the story of the island state through its décor.

Each room and suite (ranging in size from 43 square metres to 105 square metres) will be inspired by a different “character” of Tasmania’s history – including explorers, inventors, convicts, bushrangers, first people, industrial giants and more. Twenty waterfront luxury suites will have views of the Derwent Estuary and private terraces.

A restaurant, bar and gym will be available, with entertainment options including cocktail classes and wine tastings.

Room rates will start at A$475 per night, with bookings available from November 2016. The hotel is scheduled to open mid-2017.
