The hotel is located right on Hobart’s harbourfront and on The Hunter Street Precinct which is a neighbourhood of some of Tasmania’s favourite restaurants, cafes, galleries and markets. The Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery, Brooke Street Pier, MONA Ferry and Salamanca markets are within walking distance.

The Hunter Street Precinct is where The Henry Jones Art Hotel is located. Across Sullivans Cove and only a few minutes’ walk is Salamanca and Salamanca markets. Salamanca has a number of restaurants, cafes, bars, art galleries and also Peacock Theatre. The State Theatre and Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery is also a short walk away.

 

Size and style:

The Henry Jones Art Hotel is a mix of the traditional building and contemporary design with artworks installed throughout; it is Australia’s first dedicated Art Hotel. The former IXL Jam factory is a row of historic warehouses dating from the 1820’s and has been transformed into a sophisticated boutique with a rich history with 56 rooms and suites.

You need to know:

The Henry Jones Art Hotel has a full time Art curator and History Liaison, who take tours of the hotel and the art that is showcased. The History Liaison takes tours of the hotel, sharing Henry Jones’ story, IXL jam legacy and the history of Tasmania; in particular the waterfront that the hotel resides in. The hotel is a gallery, curated by the Art Liaison showcasing the work of local Tasmanian artists and has over 400 Tasmanian artworks displayed.

Landscape Restaurant & Grill is a restaurant and grill with hero Tasmanian and Australia beef and seafood. Landscape restaurant creates unforgettable dining experiences among John Glover artworks with exquisite Tasmanian produce and an awarded wine list with old and new world wines, extensive spirits and boutique beers. Inspired by the island of Tasmania and John Glover’s artwork the restaurant has displayed a number of his artworks, and in the Private Dining Room a selection of the Glover Art Prize winner’s artworks.
The IXL Long Bar’s extensive drinks list includes specialty cocktails, fine wines, bottle and tap beers and ciders.
Peacock & Jones is inspired by its location; the sandstone warehouses of Hunter Street, a place steeped in colonial history. The warm and welcoming nature of the building brings the open kitchen to life with fine Tasmanian wine and produce in a truly Tasmanian Location.
