The Maldives’ new laidback luxury resort

The secluded island of Milaidhoo is home to the newest addition to the Maldives’ luxury landscape. The five-star resort represents a radical reimagining of indulgence, moving away from a glitzy aesthetic and instead embracing an understated yet sophisticated design that capitalises on the stunning natural surrounds. The private island is located in the very heart of a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, surrounded by white sand beaches and vibrant coral reefs that are bursting with marine life including dolphins, whale sharks and manta rays.

After a scenic 30-minute seaplane flight from the international airport, guests are greeted by the sight of 30 over-water villas and 20 beachfront villas nestled amongst the tropical greenery. Designed by a local architect, each villa has 180-degree views of the stunning surrounds, a freshwater pool and a personal guide to attend to the guests’ every need.

Determined to provide guests with unforgettable Maldivian experiences, the resort offers snorkelling, diving, water sports, fishing and cultural excursions to nearby islands.  Setting itself apart from similar resorts, Milaidhoo offers guests exclusive access to Hanifaru Bay, which attracts the largest groupings of manta rays in the world and is also one of the best places for whale shark spotting in the Maldives. Health and wellbeing are also well catered for, with complimentary yoga and meditation classes available on the island’s spa suites.

Food savvy guests will enjoy the resort’s signature over-water restaurant which dishes up a modern interpretation of authentic Maldivian cuisine.  The bar offers refreshing innovative cocktails as well as a thoughtfully curated wine list.

The resort is targeted at couples, making it the perfect location for a private romantic retreat, however children over nine are also welcome.

Nightly rates start at US$1,575 (about A$2,170) per night for two people in an over-water villa.
