Cunard’s new ship, Queen Anne, epitomises luxury cruising

Past and present collide on board Queen Anne: a masterful ocean experience that is inspired by the past and built for the future.

When we think of the golden age of sea travel we think back to the 30’s and 40’s: to when ships that seemed impossibly large, and journeys impossibly far. We think back to when passengers were celebrities wrapped in fur coats and felt hats, when you could find Elizabeth Taylor in the dining room, John F. Kennedy in the bar, and the Duke and Duchess of Windsor taking a turn around the upper deck. In those days, the journey was just as important as the destination, and every cruise was a luxury experience that was built on refinement, glamour, and unrivalled hospitality.

British cruise line Cunard is capturing the magic of this era with a new ship that distils our nostalgia for ocean travel into a sophisticated and contemporary ship. Their newest Queen – Queen Anne – made her maiden voyage in May 2024, and is setting a new standard for ocean cruising with each journey she takes.

The Making of a Queen

Cunard has been renowned for creating unforgettable experiences since 1840. Their brand is built on world class service, fine dining, hand selected entertainment, and meticulously crafted hospitality and design. Queen Anne marks the fourth ship in the company’s current fleet, joining Queen Mary 2, Queen Elizabeth and Queen Victoria as they journey to all corners of the world, including Europe, Alaska, the Caribbean and the Far East.

As the newest ship, Queen Anne is a reflection of Cunard’s rich heritage as the pioneer of ocean travel. It’s artful design rivals iconic hotels, restaurants, and bars from around the globe; combining rich detail and sumptuous finishes with state-of-the-art inclusions for a sea adventure befitting its royal name.

“Queen Anne embodies all the characteristics that make this brand so well-loved and at the same time reimagines the complete ship experience extending the Cunard Line for future generations,” says Cunard Vice President Brand and Product, Lee Powell. “She will be the finest ship of her era.”

The finest ship of her era

A powerhouse team was put together to execute the vision for Queen Anne. Led by hospitality designer Adam Tihany, the team also included French designer Sybille de Margerie and British studios David Collins Studio and Richmond International. Together, this collaboration brought some of the world’s best experience in international hospitality design to Queen Anne

“We have added layers of architectural details and design codes that refer back to Cunard’s history and that add a touch of whimsy and British eccentricity to the experiences,” said Lewis Taylor, Design Director at David Collins Studio. “These architectural design elements along with the exquisite level of service on board, will make the new vessel truly unique.”

Jewel tones and plush upholstery are woven into guest accommodations, rich mahogany wood is worked into bars and lounges, and striking, statement lighting fixtures hang in expansive lobbies – each addition a delightful reinvention of the iconic ships of the past, but elevated for a contemporary design experience.
