Luxurious New Cellar Door Opens in the Barossa Valley
High-end offerings include an Elite Tasting of back vintages and the Making Great Wines experience which includes barrel tastings and a tasting of the Elite Single Vineyard Range in an exclusive cellar.
Those travelling to the Barossa Valley can now visit a new cellar door at Elderton Wines, which opened last week in the town of Nuriootpa. The Ashmead family have transformed their historic family homestead, situated on the original 1894 vineyard, into a new cellar door experience, which includes four private tasting rooms, premium wine experiences, a heli-pad, swimming pool, tennis court, and lawns for croquet and petanque.
Inside the homestead, which dates back to 1916, a 1,500-bottle, glass-walled cellar displays every Elderton vintage since the inaugural 1982, alongside some of the Ashmeads’ favourite wines from around the world. Visitors can also view the only known full collection of Jimmy Watson Trophy winners – one of Australia’s most prestigious and coveted wine accolades. Elderton was awarded the trophy in 1993 for its 1992 Cabernet Sauvignon.
The family has introduced a range of experiences to the new cellar door, including an Elite Tasting ($100 per person) which includes a visit to the 1894 Command vineyard with tastings of back vintages in a private tasting room, complemented by a selection of locally crafted cheeses.
The Making Great Wines experience (A$300 per person) is hosted by an Ashmead family member and includes barrel tastings, a tasting of the Elite Single Vineyard Range in an exclusive cellar, and a back vintage wine opened for participants to taste in a private tasting lounge.
The cellar door is open 10am – 5pm weekdays and 11am – 4pm weekends.
