Meet Cathay Pacific’s new Beijing lounge 

Airport time in China’s capital is better than ever in the airline’s new flagship lounge

Whether you’re arriving at the airport early or have time to spare between flights, a good airport lounge is a game changer. Rather than aimlessly roaming past shops while trying to decide which overpriced and underwhelming airport café or bar to take a seat in, airport lounges are a traveller’s oasis where the energy shifts the moment you walk through those doors. 

As part of a HK$100 billion (A$18.2B) investment into its fleet, cabin, lounge products and digital innovation, Cathay Pacific is waving an upgrade wand over some of its existing lounges and introducing new spaces including their first New York lounge in JFK International airport later this year. 

In addition to experiencing Cathay Pacific’s recently reopened The Wing, First and the newly refreshed The Bridge at Hong Kong International Airport, travellers flying from Beijing can also escape the hustle and bustle of Beijing Capital International Airport in Cathay Pacific’s redesigned and refreshed Beijing lounge.

Style and substance 

Found on the upper mezzanine in Terminal 3 the new 9,074sq ft lounge feels like a luxurious home away from home. If your home is lucky enough to have a Noodle Bar and Teahouse that is. 

In Beijing, Cathay Pacific’s famous Noodle Bar is located at the end of the Food Hall, where you can take a seat in a cosy banquette or join a long communal table. The menu features Noodle Bar stars including their signature dan dan noodles and freshly prepared wonton noodle soup along with regional specialties. Enjoy dishes that celebrate the cultural heritage of China’s capital, such as the Beijing bean paste noodles with deep savoury flavours, along with all-time favourites like xiao long bao and delicious steamed egg custard buns before your flight.  

Guests can also help themselves to a selection of international hot dishes, wholesome salads, sandwiches, desserts and freshly baked goods in the Food Hall. 

Meanwhile in the Terrace, huge windows and an open ceiling veranda let the natural light stream in as the drinks flow. As well as sipping cocktails and Laurent-Perrier La Cuvée Brut Champagne, this is also a chance to slow down and embrace teatime. 

Following the success of its Teahouse at The Pier, Business in Hong Kong International Airport, Cathay Pacific now honours traditional Chinese tea culture in their Beijing lounge too with its first Teahouse outside of Hong Kong. Allow a Cathay Tea Specialist to guide you through the origins and flavour profiles of specialty teas sourced from across China before freshly preparing your pot. 

Work or lounge around 

In the new look lounge, cherry wood and refined brass create a warm and comforting space where artworks by Hong Kong and Beijing artists cross generations. The collection includes a shimmering ink calligraphic work by Chui Pui Chee in the entrance and ink on paper works inspired by human irises by Zhang Yanzi. 

Whether you want to work or simply relax, Cathay Pacific’s bespoke Solo Chairs offer a comfortable, multi-functional space. Solo Chairs come with multiple power options including wireless charging built into the tables and individual LED reading lights. 

Alternatively, take a seat in the living room style area of the main lounge where you can enjoy time to yourself or catching up with travelling companions. And with wireless charging points in communal dining benches and outlets in drawers between chairs, there’s no need to go searching for ways to power up your devices. 

Who’s invited 

Along with first and business class passengers on Cathay Pacific and Oneworld member airline flights, Cathay Pacific’s Beijing lounge welcomes Cathay Diamond, Gold and Silver as well as Oneworld Emerald and Sapphire members.  

With up to seven daily flights between Beijing and Hong Kong the lounge is open from 00.15 to 3.15, and again from 5am until the last Cathay Pacific plane closes its doors.
