The Layap Hat Project is a village song and dance experience that preserves the endangered craft of traditional conical hat-making in Laya, one of the world’s most remote and highest human settlements, and one of two subcultures of Bhutan. With only two elderly hatmakers remaining, this critically endangered craft isn’t listed on any global preservation lists. Before the project, fewer than 50 people visited Laya annually, and only for one night while on the Snowman Trek. The project changed this.
