Umaid Bhawan Palace, perched above Jodhpur, is one of India’s last great palaces and among the world’s largest private residences, encompassing 26 acres of lush gardens. Named after Maharaja Umaid Singh, this golden-yellow sandstone marvel blends eastern and western architectural influences in an Art Deco style. Designed by architect Henry Lanchester, it boasts a majestic 105-foot-high cupola influenced by the Renaissance and towers inspired by Rajput tradition. Signature ‘Palace Services’ offer bespoke stay experiences, while dining at the opulent Risala features recipes from royal kitchens.
Horseriding, yoga, tennis and squash are on offer, along with royal spa rituals at J Wellness Circle and the signature Zodiac pool. This palace’s construction began during a severe famine and drought, providing employment and food to over three thousand people. The Taj Group’s partnership further promotes community relief, skill development through an ITI institute, and the preservation of Bishnoi village culture and handicrafts.
