Eco and Community Initiatives

General Manager Lynda Miller, together with her local team, are responsible for the variety of organic vegetables and fruits served up daily. Her extensive gardens are the result of the island’s commitment to self-sufficiency, energy conservation and organic certification in both the US and Australia. Future projects include virgin coconut oil from the islands many coconut palms and ocean salt directly from the surrounding Pacific waters.

The Vatuvara Foundation is committed to protecting and reviving oceans in Northern Lau through a network of marine protected areas and provides innovative solutions that promote awareness and empower local communities. By creating safe havens for marine life, protected areas can restore habitats and indigenous species resulting in more resilient oceans to provide sustainable livelihoods for coastal communities and to mitigate against effects of climate change and natural disasters. Conservation efforts will include awareness, monitoring, vulnerable species protection, poaching surveillance and restoration programmes.
Vatuvara Foundation is working closely with the surrounding island communities to help increase knowledge of and manage their natural resources.
