100 Princes Street elevates Red Carnation Hotels’s portfolio with up close views of Edinburgh Castle and Scottish-inspired designs

Red Carnation Hotels has announced the opening of its first property in Scotland, 100 Princes Street. 100 Princes Street is inspired by the adventures of Scottish explorers who frequented the building, which was formerly the headquarters of the Royal Overseas League. The curated property offers a launchpad from which guests can journey into Scotland’s rich cultural, historic and nautical legacy. The hotel is located a stone’s throw from Scotland’s National Gallery and directly faces Edinburgh Castle – a unique vantage point for both discerning travellers and culture-seekers.

Styled after a chic private members’ club and a celebration of all things Scottish, 100 Princes Street features 30 ensuite rooms and suites. These tailored adventures range from creating a personalised Scottish gin to serene fishing excursions on the River Tweed.

The hotel’s design arose from the team behind Botswana’s Xigera Safari Lodge and Ireland’s Ashford Castle led by Toni Tollman. The Tollman family has focused on protecting the architectural heritage of the building while restoring its original features and infusing modern luxuries. The hotel’s entrance invites guests on an artistic voyage with multiple artworks, including the hand-painted mural that wind’s up the staircase’s five storeys and celebrates Scottish explorer-botanists. Local artisans were commissioned to create custom-made furnishings, fabrics and artworks in the rooms, including five tartans by revered Scottish designer Araminta Campbell.

100 Princes Street’s two signature suites are named The Archibald and The Isobel after renowned Scottish explorers Archibald Menzies and Isobel Wylie Hutchison. These offer guests views of Edinburgh Castle, making them coveted accommodations in Edinburgh.

The Wallace is the gastronomic heart of 100 Princes Street with direct views of Edinburgh Castle and helmed by the hotel’s South African chef, Willhelm Maree. A plush dining room, bar, lounge and tasting room, where guests feast on delicious, hearty fare, prepared using the best and most freshly available local produce. Hotel guests are invited to indulge in rare Scottish whisky tastings, refined afternoon teas and a menu that pays tribute to the richness of Scotland’s local produce.

Adjoining The Wallace is Ghillie’s Pantry – a private dining room, seating up to 12 guests and featuring custom tasting menus. The walls of Ghillie’s Pantry are lined with more than one hundred whiskies, including rare bottles while the ceiling features an astrological ceiling mural by Croxford and Saunders.

Nightly rates start at £450 for an entry-level ensuite double room, including a Scottish breakfast for two.
